FIKASTÄLLE
The Final WEBSITE
The Swedish have a Fika(coffee) culture, which is the art of taking a coffee break and having a pastry with friends. More specifically, Fikaställe directly translates to coffee break. They incorporate these breaks into their workdays as well. I wanted the website to have a Nordic feeling without being too obvious about it. Cardamon buns are a signature pastry so I went with a photograph that would make the user want to go to the bakery.I chose fonts that leaned into nordic type, and under the menu bar at the top I used a norwegian sweater pattern for texture. I kept the colors subdued and cool which feels very nordic as well.
Mood Boards
I devised three different moods for the project, I was trying to convey the mood of something Swedish or Norwegian. The culture evokes clean lines, so it was difficult to find the right balance that didn’t look too corporate.
REjected DESIGN
I include this design because it was my runner up but it also shows some things that I was trying to avoid. It ended up being too obvious, with the swedish princess cake featured. I asked my peers about the two designs and the cool blue won hands down.
SKETCHES
During this phase of development, I created sketches of logo ideas, and then page layout designs. I went though many pieces of paper, I show a few pages of sketches that informed the design.
